Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co (KKR) was established in the mid 70’s and orginally their main business was in leveraged buyouts. But recently they have set up an extraordinary project that centers not merely on how much money they can make, but likewise on how environmentally friendly each of their companies are.

When Henry Kravis from KKR and the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF) merged last year green matters went mainstream. Important green matters like toxic emissions and overblown water consumption feature high on their agenda.

In order to implement these goals, they apply eco-efficiency which uses concepts like reducing the dispersion of toxic chemicals, fuel economy, and maximum use of renewable resources. Regardless of the fact that the project was an enormous success, staff simply didn’t realize how fantastic the effects were until Ken Mehlman, the man responsible for the Green Portfolio Project, reviewed the first year’s figures. Ken learned that applying eco-efficiency wasn’t just cutting impact on the planet, but in addition it was helping to save companies a great deal of money, making the program virtually an instant hit. Almost all of the businesses affiliated to Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co and Ken Mehlman at present participate in the Green Portfolio Project. When you consider that this portfolio of companies has a net worth of 86 billion dollars, you may see what an enormous feat this really is. Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co alongside Ken Mehlman are further expanding the initial project. For instance, Kohlberg, Kravis, Roberts & Co joined the EDF’s Climate Corps Program that instructs MBA students how to introduce financially shrewd, environmentally friendly techniques. In addition, Ken Mehlman has been cooperating closely with KKR to formulate analytical tools that business concerns can utilize to measure and manage resources. These metrics let employees see how green they are and identify any underlying problems.

Henry Kravis, the KKC, and the Environmental Defense Fund have encouraged all sorts of businesses to become more ecologically friendly. These innovative developments have made going green less problematic for firms in any sector and illustrated that making profits need not entail the hefty price of negatively impacting our planet.
