Celebrity PR is the equivalent of placing a brand on the image and styles of a celebrity. Like colas are branded a singer, sports star or actor’s name too becomes a brand. The celebrity will earn income off their image or brand. The more their image or brand is in the public eye they earn royalties. The most popular type of items branded by celebrities, singers or sports stars is perfumes and clothing. It is becoming more common for a celebrity to endorse existing products by using their likeness or voice to talk about the product or service. This can become a problem for product or celebrity when one side goes against the image of the other. A celebrity may do something that goes against the image of the product causing conflict and or removal from that brand link. Alternatively the product can be guilty of doing such things as testing on animals the celebrity would not want their image linked to them.
Will all of this explained, it becomes obvious why a celebrity would want to represent a product it’s free PR. If a celebrity falls out of the public spectrum for any reason good celebrity PR can bring them back into the spotlight and revive a dying or dead career. Selection of the appropriate product or service is vital to an effective PR campaign. If the product is a flop the celebrity image can be damaged. In the case of the celebrity revival PR campaign this can be fatal to the career.
Celebrities who get their name out there as a brand are much more profitable than those who do not participate in PR campaigns.
